Guidelines for Potting and Preparing Plants for the Plant Sale
This is our club’s major fundraiser. The money raised goes towards paying for guest speakers and other club expenses. Thank you for contributing to this valuable effort!
The primary aim of the plant sale is to attract and sell to the public, but all members are also welcome to buy.
Guidelines:
1. Please pot donations well ahead of time if possible, so that the plants are well rooted by the time of the sale. Plants that aren’t rooted will often droop and can’t be sold.
2. Use clean pots and soil. Check with the plant sale group if you need pots and/or labels as we have often collected some to share with members. To reduce soil needs and to provide drainage, you can put gravel, mulch, leaves or another filler at the bottom of the pot.
3. Check leaves and soil for bugs or other pests, and remove them before dropping the pot(s) off.
4. Please do not donate invasive species. If donating a plant that spreads rapidly (e.g. mint), mark on the label that it spreads rapidly and needs to be contained.
5. Label plants clearly on moisture-resistant labels. Carpenter pencils and regular pencils work well on plastic labels. Use common names, and include scientific names if you know them. Include information about the plant: eg. Annual/Perennial (A/P); Sun/Shade; High Water needs/Drought Tolerant; Height; Flower colour; and any other tips, such as spreads rapidly; reseeds freely; lovely scent.
6. Wipe outside of pots.
7. Please bring your plants to the sales area during the specified drop-off time. This allows time for our volunteers to price and organise all of the donated plants.
8. *A well-presented plant will make more money for our Garden Club!
